The local tribe in Rajasthan perform this dance on festive occasions, to put the people in the festive mood and mode. The dancers carry huge drums and drum-sticks in their hands, with which they beat the drums as they move in circles, turn around and sway. This upbeat dance form with its foot-tapping drum-beats uplifts the spirit of the onlookers who join in the revelry.
An ambience of fun, frolic and festivity is created and it is a visual treat to watch the fervour which the drum dance or `dhol-nritya` creates. The sound of the drum beats start on a low pitch but as the dance progresses, it starts getting louder and louder and echoes around till it reaches a crescendo and with it the frenzy of the people rises too. It certainly is worth a watch.
